The hotline was originally intended to run for a period of six weeks as from February 4th, reports the BBC.

However, it has taken some 3,000 calls in its opening week, 1,000 of which were on the opening day, continues the report.

According to TPAS, many women have been unsure about the implications of imminent changes to their pensions as they are considerably more complex than men’s.

Research by the organisation has found that women’s lifestyles have often prevented them from building up sufficient pension provisions, says the report.

Commenting on the huge response, TPAS chief executive Malcolm McLean said: “If it carries on at the present rate, it is very likely – 90 per cent certain – that we will extend it.”

TPAS is an independent non-profit organisation that provides guidance on all pensions.
