Pension planning a mystery for 1 in 3 women

03 December 2009 / by Rebecca Sargent

Pension planning remains a mystery for 34 per cent of women, research from Cofunds has revealed.

According to the independent fund platform men are more confident than women when it comes to retirement planning as 10 per cent more men said that they know what needs to be done to prepare for retirement compared to women.

However, the Cofunds survey revealed that more than a quarter of men still remain in the dark after admitting that they do not have a clear idea of what steps need to be taken when it comes to pension planning.

Commenting on the research, Alistair Conway, marketing and proposition director at Cofunds said: “The difference between men and women’s views on retirement planning throws valuable light onto the bigger issue of the overall lack of knowledge on what actions need to be taken to secure a financially comfortable retirement.

“The nature of working life nowadays means investors are more likely to move around employers and pensions schemes, therefore just knowing what you have in various pension pots is a good starting point.”
