New Innovative Apple IPhone Applications Unveiled

New innovative Apple iPhone applications unveiled

11 March 2008 / by Joy Tibbs
New and improved Apple iPhone applications are to be introduced according to co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Apple Inc, Steve Jobs. The iPhone 2.0 will be given a range of new programmes designed specifically to work on the phone.

According to Jobs, the original Apple iPhone will be given a significant software overhaul this summer in what he believes will make it a high-end alternative to Research In Motion’s (RIMM) BlackBerry in the corporate market.

Microsoft’s Exchange ActiveSync has been built into the phone which will protect users and enhance security when using the iPhone, offering better email facilities, security features and calendar functions, among other things. The new handset will include parental controls to prevent children accessing certain sites.

Apple is said to be making changes in response to feedback from business users about the iPhone, which received its UK launch last November. The phone’s touch screen interface means it is less restricted than handsets using smaller screens and fixed buttons. This will allow developers to create programmes that have never been used for mobile phones before as it is more flexible and offers a high resolution screen.

Venture capitalist John Doerr, a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, described the development as “the creation of the third great platform” after Apple’s other big achievements: the Mac and the iPod. “It’s bigger than the personal computer,” he said.

The iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK) will give developers – both professionals and amateurs – a set of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) allowing them to create new applications for both the iPhone and iPod touch. Anyone can now download the beta iPhone SDK free of charge and use the iPhone Simulator on their Mac computer, although developers must be registered with Apple.

Furthermore, a new App store will allow technical types to deliver applications wirelessly to iPhone and iPod touch users. This is a new application which will enable people to find and buy third-party applications directly onto their handset.
