Bupa has announced that it is to enhance its group critical illness insurance to include access to independent confidential medical information, advice and guidance.
The first in the critical illness insurance industry to offer this service, Bupa will not increase the premiums to its group customers for the enhanced cover.
Bupa critical illness insurance will now offer access to Best Doctor to its group policyholders, a service which provides a definitive medical opinion based on an international database of more than 50,000 leading medical specialists, identified as being the best in their field.
The service will deliver an independent and comprehensive assessment of the policyholder's condition, without them having to leave their home, aimed at supporting the treatment they receive from their doctor.
Commenting on the enhanced critical illness insurance cover, Steve Payne, director of Bupa Health Assurance said: "When an employee is diagnosed with a serious illness, they want to know whether their diagnosis is correct, what alternative treatments are available and if they will get better.
"Giving access to Best Doctors can help employers fully support their insured staff and their families by providing a second opinion from an expert as well as help, ongoing guidance and access to medically sound, evidence-based information. This can be hugely reassuring. Plus, as the service is independent, it doesn't influence the assessment or outcome of the claim," he said.
