While many of the nine million Brits who are travelling to sunnier climes this year have travel insurance, many do not have the right type, says Legal & General.
The insurance provider says over 50 per cent of winter holidaymakers undervalue the contents of their suitcase while a quarter do not know how much their luggage and contents are worth at all.
Legal & General says most Brits think the value of their case is £500 when it is actually £2,500.
A spokesperson for Legal & General Garry said: "It is clear that holidaymakers seriously undervalue the contents of their luggage.
"Many of us forget the actual value of the suitcase itself. The accumulated value of all the contents is not fully appreciated as just a few items can soon add up, particularly if you like designer accessories."
Legal & General recommends valuing case contents accurately so that holidaymakers can be fully reimbursed in the event of loss.
The insurance provider also recommends checking the maximum cover so that travellers know how much they are covered for.To read more about Travel Insurance, click here.
