History: Founded in 1981, BT Group plc – formerly known as British Telecommunications plc – is the UK’s largest fixed-line telecommunications and broadband provider. The company, which was privatised in 1984, currently operates in 170 countries across the globe and employs more than 100,000 people. The company offers a variety of services including landline and mobile telephone calls and broadband internet. BT Group’s businesses are operated under by British telecoms regulator, Ofcom.

Products: BT’s products are aimed at individual homeowners as well as small and large businesses. It offers a variety of telecommunications products and internet packages for customers to choose from.

BT Total Broadband: Speeds of up to 8Mb are available with BT Total Broadband. Its Option 1 package offers a 5GB monthly allowance and includes access to the BT Digital Vault, so customers can automatically back up files and photographs. With Option 2, customers can wirelessly connect to multiple devices such as PCs, laptops and gaming consoles with the Wireless BT Home Hub. It also offers an 8GB monthly allowance and 350 Wi-Fi minutes compared with 250 on Option 1. Option 3 provides customers with the Wireless BT Home Hub and BT Hub Phone, unlimited downloads and unlimited Wi-Fi minutes. A 24-hour support line is available on all three deals.

BT Business Total Broadband: BT also offers businesses three broadband options. BT Business Total Broadband Option 1 provides download speeds of up to 8Mb and 10GB of monthly usage allowance. Ten email accounts with anti-virus and anti-spam filtering and 50Mb of webspace are also included. Options 2 and 3 offer an unlimited usage allowance and 250 BT Openzone wireless minutes. Option 3 also provides BT Business Total Broadband with free IsecP security and IT Support Manager.

BT Wireless Broadband: BT Wireless broadband is available free with Options 2 and 3 of both the BT Total Broadband and BT Business Total Broadband deals through the BT Home Hub. The Option 1 packages offer standard wired broadband, although customers can choose to upgrade to wireless for a one-off fee.

BT Home Phone: There are several options available to BT Home Phone customers. The company provides an Anytime call package which allows customers to call UK landlines (starting 01 and 02) at any time of day and for however long they like. It also offers Evening and Weekend deals, either with or without its CallMobile offer, which allows customers to call UK mobiles from five pence per minute.
