What is a Stocks and Shares ISA?
A Stocks and Shares ISA provides a tax efficient means of saving. It enables you to invest £7,200 each year into a range of investments, and any capital growth or income is tax protected from the tax man.

From 6th April, you can invest £10,200 a year. For over 50s this change applied from 6 October 2009, meaning you can invest an additional £3000 in the 2009/10 tax year.

Stocks and Shares ISAs have the potential for greater returns but do carry an element of risk depending on the investment you select. Whereas Cash ISAs are mainly deposit accounts where your capital is guaranteed and any additional interest is tax free.
