A study by BroadbandChoices.co.uk revealed that Sky delivered the “most consistent” speeds this year, while Virgin Media was also praised for the service it delivered.

However, TalkTalk and Supanet were found to be among the suppliers offering less consistent services, the firm noted.

Michael Phillips, product director at BroadbandChoices.co.uk, said that it is “simply not possible” for all customers to receive the speed that is advertised.

“Our speed tests show that, on average, customers only receive 35 per cent of the promised speed,” he remarked.

Last month, uSwitch.com reported that approximately four million broadband customers are dissatisfied with the speed their supplier currently provides them.

The company also found that nine million consumers consider speed to be more important than “value for money” when they choose between broadband providers.
