SSE launches new energy tariff

14 November 2007
Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) has announced the launch of a new tariff which is said to offer 100 per cent green electricity.

Responding to the news, Karen Darby, founder of SimplySwitch.com, said that suppliers view this time of year as important because as it gets colder, households tend to “shop around” for better deals.

SSE is the latest supplier to introduce a new deal in recent months with its Better Plan tariff, following the likes of British Gas, Scottish Power and Powergen, Ms Darby stated.

“Through Better Plan, SSE promises to match each customer’s electricity consumption with power from its hydro-electric plant … great news for those concerned about the environment,” she commented.

However, with research by the company showing that fewer than 20 per cent of people said they would consider changing to a green energy tariff, the expert claimed that price remains the biggest motivating factor for people looking for better deals.

Earlier in the month, SSE was ranked the highest in a recent customer satisfaction survey published by J D Power and Associates for both gas and electricity.
