For many pet owners, dental insurance may not always seem quite as important as some of the more standard health insurance policies that are designed for pets. However, it is important to remember that problems with an animal’s dental hygiene can often have serious consequences.

Symptoms such as bad breath and discoloured teeth can often lead to far more serious issues, such as inflamed gums and infections that may cause your pet to be unable to properly feed itself. To help eliminate these potential risks and ensure the continued health and wellbeing of your pet, take a look at our pet insurance comparison table below.

Pet insurance policies are handled in several different ways depending on the type of insurance that is selected, the following is a brief explanation of each:

Lifetime Policies
Lifetime pet insurance policies will provide customers with a set amount of cover for veterinary fees over the course of a year. This cover will then be renewed every year as long as the policy remains active. Although expensive, this type of policy provides customers with the highest level of protection.

Maximum Benefit Policies
More of a ‘one off’ insurance, this type of policy will provide customers with pet health caree up to a maximum amount for as long as they wish. However, once this money has spent, no further payouts will be made.

Time-limited Policies
This type of policy allows customers to select an amount (£2,000 for example) to spent on an animal's condition. Once a claim is made, however, there is usually a 12 month limit, after this period has ended the policy holder will be expected to pay for the cost of treatment.
