New Quick Guide to help investors make decisions

29 July 2005
The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has laid out its main proposals for a simplifying Quick Guide to investing.

The proposals will be examined today by investment firms, who would be required to give customers a concise two-page guide to help them make decisions regarding the investment in certain products such as pension plans and life policies.

The FSA wants the guide to be at the top of a marketing pack and follow a tabular format containing numbered questions and bulleted answers.

Furthermore it wants the guide to include the “key facts” logo and a “regulatory message”.

Dan Waters, director of retail policy at FSA felt that consumer testing had demonstrated the Quick Guide’s effectiveness.

He said: “It will stand out from other marketing material and should enable firms to clearly set out the key benefits and risks of each type of investment in an easy-to-read format.”
