Christmas films are an integral part of the holiday season, but uSwitch.com urges consumers to choose the right TV package for them so that they do not run out of options on the telly this Christmas.

Research from uSwitch has found that the nation’s favourite Christmas film is A Christmas Carol, and whether they prefer the muppets’ version or one a bit closer to Dickens’ original, the comparison website is urging consumers not to get ‘scrooged’ on their TV package.

More than 90 per cent of Brits are looking forward to sitting down and enjoying a film over the festive period, but about a quarter say they are tired of watching the same old films, so uSwitch says it is important to choose the right package and refresh the selection of Christmas films available to them this year.

But with digital TV providers more competitive than ever, uSwitch says, with Sky and BT offering a wide choice of TV packages, Brits can save themselves from the old classics.

Jason Glynn, communications expert at uSwitch.com, commented: “We’re used to shopping around for Christmas bargains – and this applies to TV packages too this year. There’s a wealth of deals around to give film buffs access to a whole host of movies over the Christmas period – whether they are after the latest releases, high definition films, or family classics.”

Sky TV packages are offering Sky Movie packages one and two for £8 extra a month, or new customers can get a subscription from £17.50 a month and add the same movie packages. Until 21 December, new customers also get a £50 M&S voucher.

BT Vision is offering their PictureBox film pack for £14.68 a month (£7.34 for the first three months), which requires a BT phone line with rental at £7.78 a month. BT Vision+ boxes cost £45, or new and existing broadband customers can get a free box when they renew their contract for 12 months, if they subscribe to a value pack.

Existing Virgin Media customers can add the Sky Movies packages from £16.50 a month, or both from £19.50 a month. New customers can get Virgin TV for just £5.50 a month when they take a Virgin phoneline, or £11.50 without. Virgin also offers FilmFlex, an on demand library of 500 films.

Those for whom film packages are just for Christmas, not for life, might be able to upgrade their package just over the Christmas period, uSwitch.com suggests, which some suppliers allow.

Mr Glynn added: “Best of all, you can sign up to many of these packages for just 30 days, which means you can get great films at Christmas without being tied into an annual contract.”
