Reacting to news of a significant rise in caravan sales as Brits opt to travel in the UK this year, Confused.com has added caravan insurance to its list of comparison services.

With some caravan showrooms announcing a 15 per cent rise in sales, comparison website Confused.com has made caravan insurance available alongside its other products, such as car insurance.

This summer has seen hordes of Brits opt for a holiday in the UK rather than going further afield, as the credit crunch has shrunk holiday budgets.

Confused.com’s research has found that there are around 4,000 caravan parks in the UK and that Brits own almost 500,000 touring caravans.

The recession is largely to thank for the rise in caravanning in the UK, Confused.com believes, as more people choose to holiday at home to save money.

To reflect the increase in the caravanning, Confused.com is adding caravan insurance to its range of products, where customers can compare deals and apply for the one that best suits their needs.

John Cooper, caravan product manager at Confused.com, said: “Caravan insurance is often provided via specialists, but now customers have the chance to shop around.”

He added: “Confused.com recognised the increase in demand for such holidays due to household budgets being squeezed.”
